Why ads after purchase?

This is a fun app that my children enjoy. I would have given it four stars but for one problem. When my kids open the app, they are immediately presented with a large advertisement that takes them to the App Store if clicked anywhere. This is despite the fact that we paid $4.99 to unlock all features.
